Through a partnership between MOUSE, MakerBot and SISCL, The Science and Technology Department will have a 3D printer installed in the fourth floor science lab. Come by next week to check it out.
Nooks – We have 18 Barnes and Noble Nooks you can use in your ELA classroom. Teachers can sign out a set of four or five that you can use to supplement your classroom library, create a Nook book club, or rotate them among student groups. Please send me an email if you are interested.
Neo2 word processing devices – If you have a student that is dysgraphic, has underdeveloped motor skills that hinder typing or needs help with simple arithmetic problems, the Neo2 assistive student device may help. The Neo2 is a small keyboard with an LCD screen that communicates with your teacher computer. Students that have trouble taking notes can type on the Neo2 and download the information onto your computer. There is also software available to run small applications to help with reading and math challenges.
SISCL apps – Continuing our series of training on our SISCL site, we are beginning grade-level PDs for class website creation. We will begin with grade three this month with the goal of creating one site per triad. We will schedule the other grades based on interest level. These site-creation PDs will take the place of the monthly grade meetings.
Engrade Online Student Data Management – Our SISCL Engrade account is live and many teachers have started using it. Please enter statenislandschoolofcivi-62000-07700 when you are creating your account in order to join our school and avoid having to manually enter student information. This will also allow students to login with one account and see all of their teachers. The MOUSE Squad will even create your accounts and fill your class rosters for you if you wish.
Seventy-six percent of our staff has activated their SISCL account! If you need help or would like a refresher lesson, please feel free to reach out to me or one of your colleagues.
The MOUSE Squad – our student computer repair team – is collecting surveys to assess the need of a Saturday-morning computer repair clinic. If you, a family member or one of your students would be interested in having their computer refurbished free of charge by the MOUSE Squad, please fill out the survey form attached.
To extend the life of your projector bulb, please make sure you power your projector down when you are not using it. If you have a stand-alone projector, let it shut it down and cool for 90 seconds before you unplug it. We currently only have three SmartBoard bulbs and one NEC bulb in our inventory. Each one costs $350.
The SMART Table for the Pre-K classes is being repaired. SMART Tech is sending us a new battery.
Our Mimeo Interactive Boards have arrived. A PD will be scheduled on the next retreat day to show you how to install and use the device.
We now have Cable TV hooked up in room 312.
Again, please reach out to Mr. Valia in room 304 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
